Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Gorge
Depart from Marrakech and journey through the winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains, where traditional Berber villages dot the rugged landscape. Ascend the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, offering breathtaking panoramic views at 2,260 meters above sea level.
Descending into the Kasbah Unila Valley, a UNESCO-listed site, you’ll arrive at Ait Ben Haddou, the legendary fortress that once served as a major stop on ancient caravan routes. Wander through its labyrinthine alleys and marvel at the earthen architecture that has stood the test of time.
After exploring the kasbah, continue toward the Valley of Roses, where fragrant blossoms transform the landscape each spring. The journey then leads to the stunning Dades Gorge, where towering red cliffs create a surreal, canyon-like setting. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a charming guesthouse nestled within the valley.
Day 2: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Erg Chebbi (Merzouga)
After breakfast, venture deeper into Morocco’s desert landscapes. Stop at the dramatic Todra Gorge, where sheer limestone cliffs rise to dizzying heights, making it a paradise for nature lovers and rock climbers alike.
The journey continues through Erfoud, known for its fossil-rich terrain, where you’ll have the chance to visit a workshop showcasing ancient marine fossils. Then, as the scenery shifts from rocky plateaus to golden dunes, you’ll arrive at Erg Chebbi near Merzouga, where towering sand dunes stretch as far as the eye can see.
In the late afternoon, mount a camel for a mesmerizing trek across the dunes, soaking in the vast silence of the desert. As the sun sets, watch the landscape transform into a palette of fiery orange and deep gold. Arrive at a traditional Berber camp, where a warm welcome and a delicious dinner under the stars await. Gather around the fire to enjoy Gnawa music performed by local nomads before retreating to your desert tent for the night.
Day 3: Erg Chebbi – Rissani – Errachidia – Ifrane – Fez
Rise early to witness the magical sunrise over the dunes, then enjoy breakfast at the camp. After a camel trek back to Merzouga, freshen up before setting off toward Fez.
Travel through the Ziz Valley, where lush palm groves contrast against the desert backdrop. Stop in Rissani, an ancient trading hub, and continue through Errachidia, passing scenic mountain passes and arid plateaus.
The landscape shifts as you enter the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, where you may encounter playful Barbary macaques. Stop in Ifrane, often called “the Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and crisp mountain air.
By late afternoon, arrive in Fez, where the journey concludes in Morocco’s spiritual and cultural heart.
